What this site publishes about your practice
and what claiming the listing does, in plain English.
eyetestcost.com publishes a page for every optical site the NHS Organisation Data Service lists as active: 6,385 sites on 3,056 contracts, across 296 districts, in the snapshot dated 4 September 2026. The page exists whether or not anyone at the practice ever visits it, because the register is a public record and this site is a directory of it alongside what an eye test costs.
We did not ask practices for the data and we did not buy it. Every fact on a listing comes from the ODS optical headquarters and sites files, published under the Open Government Licence, with the source and snapshot date on every page. Nothing on a listing is a review, a ranking or a recommendation, no practice can buy a position on this site, and nothing here is endorsed by the NHS.
What claiming gives you
Claiming is free, and it stays free for the things a patient needs: your website, your phone, whether you are taking new patients, and every correction. The Enhanced tier at £99 a year plus VAT is the part where the practice describes itself, marked below. Everything you add appears in its own panel, dated and labelled as supplied by the practice, below the register facts and never mixed into them.

Free text is checked before it is published: no ranking or endorsement claims (“best”, “leading”, “award-winning”), nothing that implies NHS endorsement, no price figures in free text, no links in free text, and nothing untrue or misleading. A first edit is read by a person before it goes into a build. Sight-test fees stay off the editable list: NHS tests are free to eligible patients at the fee the NHS sets, and your private fee belongs on your own site where you keep it current.
What claiming never changes
The register record: site name, ODS site code, the headquarters code and name, how many sites sit on that contract, listed-since and contract-end dates, the address, district, region, ICB and the snapshot date. Only the register can change those. If one is wrong, correct it through your ICB or ODS and this site follows at the next quarterly refresh. Claiming also does not move your practice in any list, and there is no position on this site to buy.
How we check it is really you
A person does. The ODS optical files carry no email address, phone number or website for any site, so there is nowhere this site could send an automatic verification link. Email [email protected] from an address at the practice, quoting the ODS site code from your listing. We check it against the register and send a one-time link that opens the editor. If you hold several sites on one contract we can open the rest once you are verified, so you only do this once.
We keep the verified address while the claim is active, to sign you in and to send notices about the listing, and for 90 days after you release it. We never publish practice email addresses on this site, and we never approach practices using this register.
The badge, and what it is not
A claimed listing shows “Listing kept up to date by the practice”. That means someone at the practice keeps the practice-supplied parts current. It is not a verification of clinical quality, an approval, an accreditation or an endorsement by this site, the NHS or your commissioning board, and it says nothing the register does not already say about your contract.
The full agreement is in the listing terms. Corrections are free and do not need a claim.
